Okavango Delta
Okavango Delta, located in northern Botswana, is a fantastic tourist destination. Its main characteristic is that it does not flow into the sea, but it disperses in a very dry area – the Kalahari Desert.
The waters of the Okavango River are absorbed by the desert, both by infiltration and by evaporation. The Delta is home to diverse wild fauna, including elephants, rhinoceros, buffaloes, antelopes, and the only swimming lions in existence.
Okavango Delta shows a beautiful landscape, with gorgeous sunrise and sundown. This place has been protected by UNESCO since 2014.
Gaborone
Gaborone is the capital city of Botswana. Founded in 1964 and situated in the southeastern part of the country, Gaborone is the economic center of Botswana, holding its main financial institutions.
Diamond mining is one of the most important economic activities, along with the copper and nickel industries. Gaborone holds the prestigious University of Botswana; the Gaborone National Museum, showing pieces of traditional crafts and works of art by local artists, and original paintings by Thomas Baines and Lucas Sithole. The National Botanical Garden was built to protect Botswana’s valuable indigenous plants.
Moremi Game Reserve
Located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve is a protected territory in Botswana. Bordered by the Chobe National Park, the reserve is home to the Basarwa or Bushmen, local people who were allowed to remain in the area.
Vegetation is varied, with dry land and seasonal wetlands, making the lagoons formed excellent for birdwatching. Moremi is also home to several protected species of wild animals, some of them in danger of extinction.
Breeding herds of elephants and buffaloes, the African wild dog, the Black and White rhino, and lions can often be seen in this sanctuary for wildlife.
Chobe National Park
Chobe National Park is located north of Botswana, in the Kalahari Desert, near the border with Zambia. The Chobe and Linyanti Rivers show a fantastic view when, in the dry season, a large number of wild animals gather along the rivers to drink: elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, impalas, hippos, antelopes.
Chobe National Park has an important population of elephants, estimated at over 100 thousand.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve
The second largest hunting reserve in the world, occupying over 50,000 Km2, is Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Created in 1961, the reserve holds an endless list of wild species of animals, such as lions, white rhinoceros, yellow mongooses, brown hyenas, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and many others.
The birdlife is also varied, including yellow-tailed doves, ostrich, and kori bustards. The reserve shows a gorgeous view all year round.
