Sightseeing in Portugal

Many places in Portugal are worth visiting. Let’s take a look at 5 of them:

Lisbon

The capital of Portugal is one of Europe’s most exciting cities, with great museums and monuments such as the mighty Castelo de Sao Jorge, and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Mosteiro dos Jeronimo and Torre de Belem.

Sunny weather, colorful buildings during the day, fantastic nightlife with bars and small cafes. Besides, warm-friendly people both day and night will welcome the visitors, who love to enjoy the Pasteis de Nata, a delicacy invented a few centuries ago by Belem monks.

Sintra

Surprising Sintra is one of Portugal’s most popular cities, with several monuments, palaces, and castles, recognized by UNESCO in 1995 for its incredible cultural landscape. Visitors can enjoy architecture, such as Palacio Nacional, signaled by its twin chimneys; the old Castelo dos Mouros, built during the 8th and 9th centuries; the Palacio da Pena, used by the royal family in the 19th century due to the climate. Others places to visit: Palacio da Regaleira, Palacio de Monserrate, Parque Natural de Sintra-Cascaes. Sintra is about 40 minutes from Lisbon and ideal for a day trip.

Porto

Porto (or Oporto) is the second city in Portugal. Located on the right bank of the Douro (closed to the mouth), it offers tourists different experiences. If you love books, visit the beautiful Libralia Lello, on the Rua das Carmelitas. Then, be ready to go up the 225 steps at the Torre dos Clerigos (one of several baroque churches) and enjoy the view. Do not miss the spectacular structure of Ponte Dom Luis, which spans the Douro. At the end of the day, visit Café Santiago and have a taste of Francesinha Santiago and, of course, Porto wine.

Évora

Évora, the capital of Alentejo, became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996, due to its many historical monuments. The well-preserved Templo Romano (2000 years old), the Igreja de Sao Francisco, with the lugubrious Capela dos Ossos on the side, the Cadaval Palace Museum, and Praca do Giraldo, the most important square located downtown Évora, represent some of the places worth visiting. And all within walking distance. Before leaving Évora, have sushi prepared before your very eyes.

Óbidos

Óbidos is a beautiful village located in Oeste, 88 kilometers north of Lisbon, in the region of Estremadura. The principal entry to this medieval town is Porta da Vila, a double gate covered with XVIII century tiles, which takes you straight to Rua Direita, the main street. You are welcome to visit the Igreja de Santa Maria; the town´s Castle, with paintings by Josefa De Óbidos and Igreja da Misericordia, built between 1541 and 1551. Do not leave the village without trying the famous liquor Ginja and the pasteis de nata.

Now that you know the best destinations in Portugal, and the best ways to stay connected, it is your turn to choose the best eSIM.
