A special attraction is The Tromostovje, a triple parallel bridge that spans the Ljubljanica River. Other places worth visiting are St. Nicholas Cathedral, the City Zoo, Preseren Square, and the Dragons Bridge. At day´s end, enjoy the open-to-air cafes bordering the river.
Piran
Piran is a gorgeous township situated on the coast of The Adriatic Sea. It is one of the most important touristic centers in Slovenia. The Slovene and Italian languages are both spoken indistinctly. Tourists may visit the Church of St. George, built in 1614; the Walls of Piran, a stone rampart of the 7th century; Tartini Square, the main square in town, named after violinist Giuseppe Tartini; or the Maritime Museum, from the 19th century, holding naval expositions. Do not leave this beautiful resort without swimming in the Adriatic.
Postojna
Postojna is a small town (population 10 thousand) about 50 km. from the capital, on the way to the Adriatic Sea. Tourists heading for Piran cannot miss stopping at this location, known for its amazing system of caves and galleries 20 km. long and ceilings close to 50 m. high; and the Predjama Castle, built in 1570 and holding the Guinness Record as the biggest castle (35 m. high) built inside a cave. A train is available to take visitors 3.7 km. into the main cave.
Triglav National Park
The perfect place to be visited by outdoor lovers in Slovenia is The Triglav National Park. Extended from the border close to Austria to the border with Italy, the park owes its name to the highest elevation in Slovenia: Mount Triglav (2864 m), which is part of The Julian Alps. Try to hike Mount Triglav from any of the valleys that give access to the mountain. Or enjoy the view of Lake Bohinj, fed by the waters of the Savica River and discharging its waters in the Sava Bohinjka. Do not miss the fantastic Savica Waterfall, striking at an altitude of 78 m.
Lake Bled
One of the most beautiful lakes in Slovenia is Lake Bled. Surrounded by woods and mountains, including the Julian Alps, it is famous for its emerald green waters and the small island in the middle of the lake. It can be reached by pletna, a wooden boat typical of the area. The island is home to several buildings, including the Church of the Assumption, from the 17th century. You can walk around the lake and visit the Bled Castle, also from the 17th century. Have a great time renting a rowboat or taking a swim in warm water.
