How To Reset A Phone?

From time to time, we can run into functionality problems with our phone, that even if we restart it we do not find any improvement. That is when we should consider resetting our phones.

Although it is not something to take lightly, we are going to show you how simple it is to reset your phone when necessary.

So let’s continue reading and learn when and how to reset your mobile phone!

What is to reset a phone?

Have you ever wanted to delete all the apps and data because your phone is too slow? Think about those moments when your phone crashes too often and you lose your patience trying to have it back. If that happens too often to you, then reset a phone is a solution.

Reset your phone means restoring it to its original system. When doing this, all the data and information that is stored in the device is deleted. This includes applications, photos, videos, contacts, and all the settings. The only thing that it does not remove is the device’s operating system. It also means that when you reset a phone and then you turn it on again it will be in the same conditions as the moment you buy it.

There are several reasons why you would need to reset your phone, let’s take a look at them:

Why do I have to reset my phone?

Although it is not something that you would do every day, week, or even every year, there are important reasons or situations where resetting the phone is the best way.

The first reason we want to comment on is the one we mentioned above in the first section. When we store too much data and information in our cell phones, it can get slow over time. This happens because data and cache can build up in your phone and take more space than necessary. The result is an annoying slow device that continues freezing every time that you open an app and forces closes.

This is something that should not be happening because devices are designed to function smoothly, so we can get a better advantage from them. We suggest trying first to turn the device off and on. However, if it does not work and you do not want to get a new smartphone, then resetting it can be a good solution. Just bear in mind that you will have to save your important information in a cloud or on another device if you want to keep them.

Another situation where you should consider resetting your device would be if you were selling it or giving it to a friend. That way the other person will receive a phone with no apps or data, like if it were new, and you will be sure that no one else will have access to your private information.

Just remember that if you are going to reset your phone, you need to save any important information because after that it will be impossible to have it back.

How to reset a phone (Android and iPhone)

Now that you saved the important data, you are almost ready to reset your phone! You only need to be sure that your device has more than 70% of battery because the process takes about one hour. It is advisable to keep it plugged during the process. Then you need to follow these steps:

Reset an Android phone

  • Go to the settings menu.
  • Scroll down and find an option that says “Back up and reset” or something similar, since each device can have slightly different settings.
  • Tap on the option called “Factory data reset”. There you will find information about the resetting process. It will tell you what data will be deleted (Google account, apps, systems, and app data and settings), and the current accounts where you have signed. If you have an SD card in your phone, it will give you the option to erase it too. If you do not want to do this, we recommend you remove it.
  • Tap on “Reset phone”.
  • A pop-up message will appear asking you for confirmation. If you have a password or pattern on your phone, you probably need to enter it.
  • The process may take time, and when it finishes the cell phone will turn back on.

Reset an iPhone phone

  • Open the settings menu.
  • Find the option that says “General”.
  • Scroll down and you will find an option that says, “Reset”. There you will find different options: Reset All Settings, Erase All Content and Settings, Reset Network Settings, Reset keyboard dictionary, Reset Home Screen Layout and Reset Location and privacy.
  • As we want to reset the phone to factory settings, choose the option “Erase All Content and Settings”.
  • A pop-up message will appear showing the option of uploading all your data to iCloud.
  • Probably you will be asked to enter your password and then proceed with the reset.
