The Komodo National Park, on the Komodo, Rinca, and Padar Volcanic Islands, was founded in 1980 and it´s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The park was created to protect a lizard-dinosaur-like reptile found in Indonesia alone: the Komodo dragon. The dragon-like lizard can reach up to three meters in length and a weight of 70 kilograms, and it may be observed safely with the help of specialized tour guides.
The park, also formed by other smaller islands and islets, was expanded to protect the fauna and flora, both on the land and sea life as well, and it was declared one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, in 2011.
